Japanned Occasional Table with Painted Flowers, full view

Japanned Occasional Table with Painted Flowers

A shaped-top occasional table in black japanned wood, the serpentine frieze hand-painted with yellow and white flowers and gilt scrollwork, raised on slender cabriole legs. The lacquer is rubbed at the corners and the painting has softened, which is what a hundred and thirty years of dusting will do. Small, dark and quietly theatrical.
