Japanese Painted Four-Panel Screen
A four-panel byobu screen painted in ink and colour on paper, showing a wooded river landscape with a pavilion and autumn maples against a gold-toned ground. The reverse is a patchwork of aged paper backing, much of it lifting, with old newsprint used in a past repair. Honestly worn on one side and quietly beautiful on the other, which is a fair description of most things worth keeping.
