Child's Oak School Desk with Inkwell

A child's school desk in oak, the sloping lid lifting on iron hinges to a plain box interior, with a ceramic inkwell set into the top rail, a shaped pen groove and a low back gallery, on four square legs braced by stretchers. The lid is scored and ink-marked from years of use. Everything a nineteenth-century education required, apart from the discipline.
