Bobbin-Turned Swinging Cradle on Stand, full view

Bobbin-Turned Swinging Cradle on Stand

A Victorian swinging cradle, the boat-shaped body built up from densely bobbin-turned spindles and hung on trunnions between splayed trestle ends. A tall turned post carries the shepherd's-crook canopy arm, and the white drapery and mattress come with it. It rocks with almost no encouragement, which was the entire point and remains its best trick.
